AMA/ACRA First Triennial Conference

AMA/ACRA Seattle Conference Attendees:

We have several changes to the conference schedule which have come about due to logistics, changes in speaker’s schedules and unforeseen circumstances. The current program has all of the updated information as of April 17. The key changes you should note are:

  • Wednesday: no conference dinner at hotel- we substituted lunch on Saturday for this meal
  • Friday: No tours on Friday afternoon- We could not get any company to agree to provide a tour
  • Friday: Luncheon Speaker added- Adam Brotman, Chief Digital Officer of Starbucks
  • Saturday: ACRA annual business meeting- 7:30-8:25 during breakfast
  • Saturday: No luncheon speaker – replaced by Friday speaker

The AMA/ACRA First Triennial Conference, sponsored jointly by the American Marketing Association Retailing and Pricing SIG and the American Collegiate Retailing Association, will be held April 18th through 21st at the Hotel Monaco in the heart of downtown Seattle. The Hotel Monaco is near historic Pioneer Square and Pike Place Market. We have a special room rate of $160 per night for conference attendees (same rate for doubles). For reservations, please call 206-516-5097 and reference “AMA/ACRA Group) for the special rate which is available until March 28, 2012. The conference fee is $350 and includes one dinner, two luncheons, continental breakfast each day, and a wine/snacks reception each evening.

Attendees have the opportunity to present their research to their peers, and to have Best Papers published in a special issue of the Journal of Marketing Management! The call for papers is found on the ACRA website. Attendees may also submit proposals for workshops designed to improve teaching, research writing or presentation skills. In addition, a number of exciting special sessions are planned including Making the Research Process Successful, Special Tours (potential companies are Nordstrom and Costco home offices/flagship stores), and a Special Doctoral Paper Session featuring an opportunity to help doctoral student improve their skills at preparing a journal-ready manuscript. The deadline for all submissions is November 15, 2011 and decisions will be provided by December 31, 2011.

The purpose of the American Collegiate Retailing Association  (ACRA)  is to foster quality retail education at four-year college and graduate schools. It has important commitments to teaching of retailing, retail research, and administration of academic retail programs.
