International Retailing Education and Training (IRET) China Learning Modules and Study Tour for ACRA members

Resources available to ACRA members:
The IRET (International Retailing Education and Training) offers free supplementary materials that outline the knowledge essential to building global competence in international retailing with a special focus on China. These materials can be freely accessed at https://site.warrington.ufl.edu/iret upon registration. This resource offers eight learning modules accompanied by Powerpoints, videos, photographs, and case studies. Upon free registration, instructors, students and corporations will gain access to multimedia learning modules. The modules cover the following topics:

  1. Background
  2. Chinese Culture and Shopping Behaviors
  3. Retail Market Entry Strategy in China
  4. Retail Marketing Management
  5. Locations in Chinese Retail Industry
  6. Retail Supply Chain Management
  7. Ethical Issues
  8. Retail Human Resource Management

In conjunction with learning modules, the China Retail Study Tour (http://blog.warrington.ufl.edu/china-retail-study-tour/) provides retail instructors and professionals with opportunities to learn and experience China business practices in different sectors related to retailing: supply chain, sourcing, manufacturing, real estate, advertising, marketing, and retail operations. During the 3-week study tour (May 10th – May 30th, 2013), participants will meet executives in U.S. companies in China and exemplary domestic Chinese companies, government and trade association officials, and visit stores as well as cultural sites in five cities: Hong Kong, Beijing, Yiwu, Shanghai, Shenzhen, & Guangzhou. –The IRET initiative is led by the David F. Miller Center for Retailing Education and Research (CRER) at the University of Florida (UF) and is funded by the U.S. Department of Education– Business and International Education (BIE) Program. ACRA Membership Renewal Notice

Dear ACRA member:
ACRA annual membership dues are due for 2013!

We will continue to keep ACRA’s dues at $75 for both domestic and international members. In addition to our electronic newsletter, we provide you with access to electronic copies of two journals and to their archives! These journals are:

  1. The International Journal of Retail and Distribution Management and
  2. The International Review of Retail, Distribution and Consumer Research

The regular subscription rates for faculty for these journals over $100 per year.

Spring 2013 Conference in Nashville

March 20-23, 2013, Nashville, TN
The conference will be held at the Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center in Nashville,
TN. Gaylord Opryland is a landmark Nashville hotel on 9 acres of indoor gardens under climate
controlled glass atriums with an extraordinary selection of dining, shopping and recreation
options.

EAERCD Conference 2013

Details of the EAERCD Conference 2013 (about which many people were asking in Seattle) are now available – there is a web site at www.eaercd2013.com. The dates are 3-5 July 2013 and it will be held in the lovely city of Valencia, Spain.

The purpose of the American Collegiate Retailing Association  (ACRA)  is to foster quality retail education at four-year college and graduate schools. It has important commitments to teaching of retailing, retail research, and administration of academic retail programs.

ACRA is a professional organization which is composed of membership from four-year institutions that have retail programs or retail courses. The membership is made up of faculty from these disciplines: business schools, liberal arts, economics, human ecology, textiles, design and apparel. Membership from diverse groups is encouraged.
